Setting Up Your E-mail in Outlook Express


This tutorial shows you how to set up Outlook Express 6 to work with your e-mail account. This tutorial focuses on setting up Outlook Express, but these settings are similar in other versions of Microsoft Outlook. You can set up previous versions of Microsoft Outlook by using the settings in this tutorial.

To Set Up Your E-mail Account in Outlook Express

1. In Outlook Express, select Tools » Accounts.

2. On the Internet Accounts window, select Add » and click Mail

3. In the Internet Connection Wizard window, enter your information as follows:

Your Name » Enter your first and last name. Click Next.
E-mail Address » Enter your e-mail address. Click Next.
Mail Server » Select the drop down POP3 setting.
Incoming mail server (POP3) » Enter mail.yourdomain.com for your incoming mail server.
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) » We suggest you contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for this setting. If you are sending mail from our server enter mail.yourdomain.com for your outgoing mail server.

Click "Next"

NOTE: "mail.yourdomain.com" is an SMTP relay server. If you do not have SMTP relay set up and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) allows it, you can use the outgoing mail server for your Internet Service Provider. Contact your Internet Service Provider to get this setting.

4. In the Internet Connection Wizard window, Re-enter your information as follows:

Account Name » Enter your e-mail address again.
Password » Enter the password you set up for your e-mail account.

5. Click Finish.
